Aries: Medieval Interpretation

Alchemical meaning: The Sun, Element: Gold, Phosphorus. The descending morning star, a substance that shines of itself, to bring to light, literally “torchbearer,” from phos “light,” contraction of phaos “light, daylight” (related to phainein “to show, to bring to light,” from PIE root *bha- (1) “to shine”) + phoros “bearer,” from pherein “to carry,” from PIE root *bher- (1) “to carry,” also “to bear children.”

This torch-bearing aspect is the reception of the first ray of man to man, this dignity of angelic virtue being sacrificed for the sins of mankind. Man is the torch-bearer, meaning that man is that which shines of itself, being an animal of law and nature; he is the possessor of the divine archetype of light, the divine law.

His/Her body is recognized as an instrument in the service of assertive blossoming and the outright active desire for the savoring of energetic capacity of what he is not sure to be. There is a growth of life, potentiated by the development of emotions through a vitalism that is expressed in rushes of passion.
